Stumped in Stumptown!

I’ve got to hand it to you guys - you really know Portland! Last week was Birthday Smackdown Week, and I chose our own fair city as the topic for you to challenge me with at each quiz. Most of you guys stumped me with questions about our fair city that were tough but fair, interesting and fun. And on Thursday’s 90210 quiz night, every single team earned a point off of me, for I let folks ask me questions about Beverly Hills 90210 - about which I know nothing! There were two teams that had amazingly awesome costumes, one of whom I eagerly await to receive pictures from. The other decked-out team, Brenda’s Rebellious Combat Boots, included the lovely Sarah X. Dylan. Way to rock forth while looking good, ladies!

Big Announcement of the Week #1: Jade Lounge will be open for Labor Day quizzery tomorrow; Ella Street Social Club will NOT.

Big Announcement of the Week #2: Tonight will be the final night that Yurs Bar & Grill Triviology will be held on a Sunday. With the advent of football season, we are making a move to Wednesday nights, starting on September 15th. Fear not, we’ll still be situated in the cozy cave, Jon will still be your terrific trivia jockey, and $50 to the bar will still be the sweet prize!

Big Announcement of the Week #3: I have sealed the deal on my newest Triviology venue - ladies and gentlemen, I present The WorkShop Pub! This bar opened last year, right next to the Clinton Street Theater, and is full of fine brews & Southern foods. Charlene will be your host at this venue, which debuts on September the 22nd at 8:30, and will continue onwards on every other Wednesday as well.

The American Birthday Smackdown, 90210!

Every year, I give you Triviologists an opportunity to stump me for points during the week after my birthday. Since Saturday was my 40th birthday, this means that #1) I probably have to consider myself an “adult” now, and #2) after each of my quizzes this week, your team will ask me one question about a topic of my choosing . . . if I get it wrong, you get a bonus point for the night! Some topics I have selected in previous years include Star Wars, John Steinbeck, Revenge of the Nerds, Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons . . . and there’s just no telling what will tickle my fancy this year. East Burn, Jade Lounge, & Sewickly’s will definitely include Birthday Smackdown point opportunities, but I just might make guest appearances at other venues this week as well.

Still more shenanignas are afoot this week! Tonight at Yurs Bar & Grill, and Tuesday at Sewickly’s, we will award extra prizes to the highest scoring teams - hats, shirts, and movie passes to George Clooney’s new film, The American! And, unlike previous movie passes I have given away, these are to be used at normal movie screenings, which means that you don’t have to deal with passholes! Hint: we’ll give you at least a couple of G-Cloo point opportunities at each of those quizzes.

Congratulations to our Disney trivia champions - Was It Good For You? Competition was stiff, but they ultimately identified more character photos, villain voices, and Disney lore & music than any other team. They are eager for more competition, and anxiously await a Pixar lunar quiz (which will probably happen in 2011). Our next theme night will be this very Thursday at 9:00. Michele & Charlene will take you back to a special place & time: Beverly Hills, 1990s. The Peach Pit wasn’t available, so La Merde offered to host the affair. If Beverly Hills ain’t your kinda place, come to The World Famous Kenton Club instead! Regular Triviology will rock forth, with Trivia Jock Brent as your host!
