Hop a thestral or a Firebolt to Ella Street Social Club, where your hostess (and fellow Potter-head!) Margaret will challenge your knowledge of the Hogwarts world – all books and films are fair game. It’s 2010 – do you know where your leg warmers are?!? If so, I encourage you to put them on and come to Xanadu trivia tomorrow night, as costumes are always enthusiastically encouraged! Since the touring company of Xanadu just roller skated through town, I thought it would be a good time to indulge in a little roller disco magic, 1980 style. Most of the questions will be about the film itself, of course, but I’ve got a book learnin’ round of relevant literature, geography, etc. prepared as well. Also, instead of standard I Don’t Feel Tardy, wherein I play song clips that you identify, we will play Trivioke for the final round! Trivioke was invented by my great trivia jockey Michele when she created That’s So Gay Trivia. In this round, I play a song, and stop the music at a random point, and YOU complete the line of lyrics I’ve interrupted. It is mad fun, and I think it’s perfect for Xanadu night! I also hope to have a pair of leg warmers to offer as a prize to someone – I will try to complete them tonight.

Margaret is another of my wonderful trivia jockeys, and she has been collecting donations for Mercy Corps, an acclaimed humanitarian aid organization based right here in Portland. Mercy Corps is working hard in Haiti right now not only to provide immediate assistance (water, food, medical care) to victims of the earthquake, but also to offer employment opportunities to the survivors. Thank you so much to everyone at both Ella Street Social Club and Hawthorne Hideaway who donated money to this important work.
