You Like To Play Trivia, Right?

Saturday, August 15th, 2009
You like to play trivia, right? Well, why wait an agonizingly long weekend to answer ShanRock questions when you can take the Triviology survey now?! My quizzes have 7 rounds; this survey has 7 questions. Triviology is fun to play, and the survey asks for your opinions on fun stuff. The “correct” answers will be revealed when I have enough responses to decide on the most pressing query – what shall I name my leprekey? I’ve even got selections laid out for you – just click your mouse a few times, and you’re done – I would truly appreciate your input. Here’s a picture of the little guy to inspire you:
One question which has overwhelming results so far concerns my next lunar quiz, Save Ferris – A John Hughes Trivia Night. I asked if people objected to my selection of films to focus upon: “16 Candles,” “Pretty In Pink,” “Breakfast Club,” “Weird Science,” and “Ferris Beuller’s Day Off.” So far, the vast majority wants me to indeed stick with these teen comedies, so unless the voting world gets turned on its ear, that will be the program. I hope to see you there, on Saturday, September 5th at Peter’s 19th Hole at 7:00. Costumes are encouraged . . .
and if fact, wearing an argyle sweater, tan trousers, and red shoes might be a good strategy – the other teams will think you’re “retarded.” As for upcoming lunar quiz themes, there is enthusiastic early support for The Cubicle Quiz (“Office Space” & “The Office”) and for the 1990s (pop culture and book learnin’ from the whole decade).

There are a couple of differences in the upcoming Triviology week schedule. First, Scott will be your host this Thursday at La Merde. Also, Wednesday at Peter’s, my format will be the same, but the night will be a fundraiser for Ooligan Press of PSU. I’ll still have plenty of pop culture, but the material will slant towards literature. Ooligan Press is asking for a $5 donation to their non-profit organization to play the quiz, and both they and Peter’s will award prizes. The grand prize for the winning team is $50 off your tab – that’s a pretty mighty reward for having fun, and a great excuse to buy yourself more beer!

Make Your Dream Quiz Theme Come True!

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009
Let’s start this newsletter off with a pretty picture – here are the Junior Varsity Sports Trivia champions from last Saturday’s lunar quiz, Two Mannings One Cup:

These guys are regulars at Scott’s Triviology night at The Hutch, so this was a triumphant debut at Peter’s! Unfortunately, The Fates made it all too easy for me to choose my next lunar quiz theme – on Saturday, September 5th, we will honor the films of John Hughes . . . with trivia! Unless there are objections, I plan on focusing on his teen comedies. I absolutely welcome your input on this, and a few other fun matters (including the naming of my leprekey and The Clash of the Trivia Titans) . . . on this-here Triviology survey! There are just 7 fun questions, which are all about stuff you like to make the quizzery better, so please take a couple of minutes to fill this bad boy out!

Many thanks to Scott for subbing for me at Sewickly’s so that I could host a quiz for the Democratic Party of Oregon last week – I missed you guys! AND, speaking of fundraisers, I’ve got another one coming up (it must be the season – is there a fundraising “season”?). Wednesday, August 19th at 8:00, my regular Peter’s trivia night will be magically transformed into a special event for Ooligan Press of PSU. I’m not sure what the details are yet, but I do know that this will be a literature-heavy night. So, if you are eagerly anticipating Wordstock, this event should tide you over nicely.
And, if you’re eagerly anticipating the next Triviology quiz, Kyle is finishing up tonight’s questions for Ella Street Social Club as I type! Please note that the new, permanent start time for this venue is 7:00 – 6:00 was just too early for this location. Da Club, as I like to call it, appears to be the new lair of The Laser Crabs, who have been Triviology regulars since I hosted trivia at The Slammer, a fantastic former venue of mine. Beware as you enter – they will smite you with their pinching and searing claws!
