This is the Super Bowl of trivia; the Oscars of pub quizzery...there will be one team to rule them all! Everyone is invited to compete in this annual two-tiered Triviology tournament for loads of trophies, prizes, and glory! Even if you have never played trivia before, you are welcome to join in the Olympian Open. After those teams receive prizes, the Olympian champion will be awarded their trophy and become the wild card seed which goes on to compete in the Titan Invitational, along with the winningest squads of the whole trivia season. The biggest prize that the overall Titan champions will receive is a free, private, customized quiz which ShanRock will host in your home, at your work, or for your favorite non-profit organization. Fans of Duckie, Chet, The Basket Case, Cameron, and The Donger UNITE – it is time to celebrate John Hughes . . . by trivializing his life’s work! We know about the reality of the man’s death, but let’s not mess with the fantasy. Tomorrow (Saturday the 5th) at Peter’s 19th Hole I will host a lunar quiz focusing on the mighty director’s teen comedies (16 Candles, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Beuller’s Day Off). Role call is at 7:00, and costumes are strongly encouraged . . . in fact, dressing in an argyle sweater, tan trousers, and red shoes might be a good strategy – your frenemies will assume you’re “retarded”!

Today is my birthday, and so Triviology is about to go Freaky Friday style! First of all, Birthday Smackdown Week begins this Sunday. At all of my venues this week, each team will ask me one question at the end of each quiz, and earn one point if you stump me. The point of this is just pure fun – I’ll get to play a little trivia, and hopefully you’ll find it interesting to step in my shoes, if only for one question. At each quiz, I will present a list of topics for you to choose your material from.
Also, tonight at 7:30 at Peter’s 19th Hole, my friends, at my behest, are going to host a trivia night for me – you are welcome to come play along. Mind you, this is not an official Triviology quiz, so the Whammy round will be all about moi, and there will be no prizes – just fun, glory, and Irish Car Bombs! If you’d like to come and shower me with presents and adulation, but can’t do it on such short notice, here’s how to plan ahead – buy tickets now to the annual Barfly Trivia Bus, and buy me belated drinks up in there instead! In addition to a night of drunken mayhem, your team could win $100, cash money! Mind you, the maximum team size on this trivial adventure is four . . . but maybe this is the perfect opportunity to cut some dead weight from your team. We ride on Saturday, October 10th.
During last night’s quizzery, Kyle and I handed out dozens of passes to a sneak preview of “Extract,” the new Mike Judge film (starring Teen Wolf II). As if that isn’t awesome enough, check this shit out – when you get to the theater, politely cut to the front of the line, and Rob, who provided me with said passes, will let you in to a cordoned-off section for Triviology players – velvet rope, baby! I even have a few passes (and some Slurpee coupons!) left over, so the champions at East Burn will also receive free passage to the Monday night screening.
