November 23rd, 2008Is La Merde or The Kenton Club your favorite Triviology venue, and you’re all sad because they’re both closed on Thanksgiving? Then come to Ladd’s Inn on Sunday and be happy instead! I’ll still do my regular 6:00 quiz at East Burn, but then I’ll jet on over to 1204 SE Clay (just south of Hawthorne) for my 9:00 debut at Ladd’s Inn (Nov. 23rd)! I’ll have extra prizes to lure you in, so there will be enough stuff for at least the THREE highest scoring teams – you could be the proud new owner of a PBR beer pitcher! I’m really excited to be at this venue, of course because it’s going to be a killer spot for my pub quizzery, but also because it has a bit of sentimental value. About five or six years ago, before the dawn of Triviology, when the bar was still called Dale Ann’s Ladd’s Addition, and I had a day job, I used to play trivia there! I volunteered in the Portland Underground (aka The Shanghai Tunnels) with a friend every week, and afterwards, we rewarded ourselves by playing trivia on a school night. We’d show up looking like Pig Pen, “fresh” from doing excavation work in the tunnels, and then kick serious butt as The Shanghai Tunnel Rats. Basically, we ruled. It’s a good feeling to return, this time as the trivia jockey – it’s the circle of life, people!
I’d like to thank my two great Trivia Jockeys for the excellent work they’re doing at The Kenton Club and The Hutch. I couldn’t have expanded my trivial empire without fun, smart, reliable assistants, and Scott and BrentBird are all of those wonderful things and more. Speaking of The Hutch, as of next week, this venue will be non-smoking!
Before I sign off, I have a quick question for you. I’m thinking about skipping December’s lunar pub quiz. If I do host one of these thematic Saturday night quizzes, it would be on the 13th. However, I know how busy the holiday season is for most folks, so I may not bother with it. What do you think – would you be available to play an extra trivia night so close to Christmas? Let me know what you think – I’ll leave it up to you!
