Congratulations to team You Like Me, You Really Like Me! for dominating my Oscar quiz at East Burnlast week! They trumped worthy contenders with their knowledge of The Academy’s biggest winners and biggest losers (and they also wrote the best essay on why Revenge of the Nerds did NOT win Best Montage Scene at the 1985 Academy Awards), and are the proud new owners of The Peter O’Toole, the engraved trophy which commemorates their victory. Unfortunately, the winning team believes that photography would steal their souls . . . however, I have a feeling that I’ll manage to capture a picture of the trophy the next time it goes out on the town, so stay tuned for that. Although I was too slow to photograph the full hideous majesty of the infamous Bjork swan dress (cuz Jill was so eager to don the ShanRock’s Triviology T-shirt she won!), I did snap a picture of her chasing one of those guys from Chariots of Fire. I really avoided a faux pax tonight folks – I almost wore MY Bjork gown to Oscar trivia! Thank goodness I couldn’t find it – we would’ve looked pretty stupid if Jill and I had been wearing the same swan dress.

I’ve got a few extra goodies prepared for you guys this week, too. First of all, Wednesday at Peter’s 19th Hole brings the return of the photo ID round! This popular favorite challenges your knowledge of local sites – I plug my camera into the plasma TV, and you ID the businesses, landmarks, etc., and answer questions about them. Fans of our fair city do not want to miss this! I’ll also have some small, but fun PBR shwag (patches, keychains, etc.) for the champion team. By the way, to sweeten the Peter’s pot, the weekly prize winnings here are now a $25 gift certificate. Also, from now on, happy hour prices will be offered to Triviologists . . . and only to us – feel special?

Next on the roster of this week’s extras, TJ BrentBird has insisted on offering ShanRock’s Triviology T-shirts to the Kenton Club champs once again (this in addition to the standard $20 gift certificate)! He really loves this venue, and wants you guys to come see how rad it is too, so check out The World Famous Kenton Club this Thursday at 9:00!

And finally, to entice you to check out my newest venue, Ladd’s Inn, this Sunday (March 8th at 9:00) I’m bringing girl scout cookies and more Pabst shwag! Mind you, this venue already offers prizes to the two highest scoring teams, so there’s lots of good stuff to set your sights on. Also, if you’re a fan of wildlife or of the occult . . . Ladd’s is haunted by a ghost cat! She is often spotted crawling the walls and gazing into people’s souls. Rumor has it that if she favors you, she’ll even whisper trivia answers in your ear. I was quick enough to capture her image before she mysteriously disappeared at a recent trivia night . . . behold!:

Oscar time is here once again, my friends – The Academy always kindly chooses a Sunday after the Clash of The Trivia Titans to hold THE awards show of the year! Come to East Burn at 3:30 for about an hour of Oscar-themed trivia, then stick around to watch the awards ceremony on the big projector screen and munch on some fresh air-popped popcorn (no trivia at Ladd’s Inn tonight)! The highest scoring team wins gift certificates to East Burn, as well as this handsome trophy, The Peter O’Toole:

And now, I believe we have some unfinished business . . . the complete results of The Clash of The Trivia Titans. I think we all know that the mighty Dr. Spaceman took the night, but are the other rumours true? Did the Fuck Facers finally fail to earn the Best Shit-Talker award (ask Willocalypse!)? Did The Nomi Malone Dance Academy really throw Taco Bell foodstuffs into the crowd? Did I really cry when I gave trophies to my two wonderful assistant trivia jockeys (yes, but just for, like, 8 seconds – shuddup!)? And so, I have posted a page of the tournament’s results, complete with pictures, videos, and some of your comments from the survey you took. Check it out here, and feel free to add more comments and/or pictures directly to the page. For that matter, I’d love to see any pictures of your team and/or your trophy that you’re willing to share. I’ll add more stuff later, including your “favorite trivia moments,” but for now, read all about the winning teams, and peruse the many extra pictures on my MySpace page. 

One thing I definitely want to say, for all to read, is that I very much appreciate TJ BrentBird’s help on tournament day. He took all of the wonderful pictures, handled the money, kept a drink in my hand, and did a hundred other things to help make the event a success . . . AND he had strep throat at the time! In fact, you oughtta treat yourself to his Thursday Triviology night at The Kenton Club. . . last week, his teams gave him a standing ovation, which brought a tear to his eye (I’m glad I’m not the only crybaby in this organization). In fact, to help lure you to NoPo, I will once again offer extra prizes at this venue – a selection of Pabst shwag will go into the pot this Thursday at Kenton Club.
On a final note, in addition to recording which team wins every Triviology quiz, my TJs and I will take note of each “team captain” this year. So far, I’ve had no problems keeping squads with similar names straight, but now that I’ve got a couple of apprentices, I’d like to be absolutely certain of whom gets credit for a win by team “Stimulated Package” as opposed to, say, team “Stimulate My Package” (I know those topical names are hard to resist!).
