This is the Super Bowl of trivia; the Oscars of pub quizzery...there will be one team to rule them all! Everyone is invited to compete in this annual two-tiered Triviology tournament for loads of trophies, prizes, and glory! Even if you have never played trivia before, you are welcome to join in the Olympian Open. After those teams receive prizes, the Olympian champion will be awarded their trophy and become the wild card seed which goes on to compete in the Titan Invitational, along with the winningest squads of the whole trivia season. The biggest prize that the overall Titan champions will receive is a free, private, customized quiz which ShanRock will host in your home, at your work, or for your favorite non-profit organization. Thank you so much to everyone who cast their ballot for me as Town’s Terrific-est TJ for the BarFly Awards . . . I won! This title means so much to me because it is you people who play the quizzery who awarded it to me. Sorry I didn’t send out a reminder message on Sunday, as I said I would, but the internet service at East Burn pooped out on me, and I had to get to the BarFly Awards already. But rest assured that your vote counts in spirit, even if it didn’t actually make it to the polls! Cedar is also thrilled to have won the Funniest Bartender Award. He really earned it too, with his spectacular, friendly service at Sewickly’s . . . AND with his fig leaf!
You get a bonus quiz this week, folks – tomorrow night (Sat. April 17th), I am hosting a Triviology Fundraiser for PSU Education Abroad (to aid the elderly in Nicaragua). Come to Schmizza Pub & Grub (415 SW Montgomery) for the happy hour prices, and stay for the quizzery, which starts at 6:30. The charge will be $5 per person to play, which of course goes straight to the PSU program. It should be lots o’ fun – there will be karaoke after the trivia! Also, I will be volunteering at theBridgetown Comedy Festival next weekend, which was found by Andy Wood of Dr. Spaceman. Tickets are on sale now, and there are LOTS of interesting comedians on the schedule – I’m most excited about Conan O’Brien’s writing staff!
Oregonians, you may be aware that this year marks the silver anniversary of the local epic action-adventure-romance-comedy-thriller that we like to call The Goonies! In honor of this momentous cinematic masterpiece, I have chosen it as the topic of my next lunar quiz at Peter’s! Mark those calendars for Saturday, May 1st, with 7:00 as go-time. The official 25th anniversary event in Astoria isn’t until June, so there should be no conflict with your adventuring. Meanwhile . . . Never Say Die!

The BarFly Awards are this Sunday, and at the risk of sounding like Veruca Salt – I want a Golden BarFy! Sure, it’s an honor just to be nominated for Town’s Terrific-est Trivia Jockey, but I also want glory . . . in the form of a shiny trophy! I would love a vote from you – here’s how it works. Ballots are cast by text – standard rates apply, so if it’s free for you to text, then your vote will also be free. You can only vote once per category, though you may vote in as many categories as you wish.

There is indeed a space between the word “barfly” and my code, “9d”. If you want to vote in multiple categories, just leave a space between my code and the next one. For example, maybe you also want to vote for Cedar of Sewickly’s, and not just because he’s nominated for Funniest Bartender, but also because he gives fast and incredibly friendly service to Tuesday night Triviologists. You can even do a test text now (I just did!), it’s just that votes won’t start counting until Sunday at 8. I love to make the trivia, and it would be ever so grand to win an honor for it. Frankly, it would also be kinda embarrassing to lose in a category whose title I invented (trivia jockey).
