This is the Super Bowl of trivia; the Oscars of pub quizzery...there will be one team to rule them all! Everyone is invited to compete in this annual two-tiered Triviology tournament for loads of trophies, prizes, and glory! Even if you have never played trivia before, you are welcome to join in the Olympian Open. After those teams receive prizes, the Olympian champion will be awarded their trophy and become the wild card seed which goes on to compete in the Titan Invitational, along with the winningest squads of the whole trivia season. The biggest prize that the overall Titan champions will receive is a free, private, customized quiz which ShanRock will host in your home, at your work, or for your favorite non-profit organization. Trivia at East Burn tonight (@ 6) is all about your team getting extra prizes, and hamming it up for the cameras! “The Next Three Days” is a thriller which will debut this weekend, and it is you Triviologists who will reap the benefits of Hollywood’s desire for you to see this film! There will be a photographer in attendance to take pictures and hand out extra prizes (in addition to the $25 bar tab for the winning team). I will maintain the standard awesome Triviology format, but the Whammy round will challenge your knowledge of the film’s stars & director (Liam Neeson, Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, & Paul Haggis). The last time we did an event like this was for Crazy Heart, which won an Oscar shortly there-after . . . you’re welcome, Jeff Bridges!
Thanks to Margaret for hosting The Best Frakking Quiz in The Universe so that I could play . . . just for fun. I recused myself from victory of course, and in fact, I handed out these certificates to every team that beat me in every round:
The winning team won a trohpy, bar cash, and tickets to the Battlestar Galactica Exhibit at the EMP, and everybody got BSG buttons. I got third place playing solo – not bad if I do say so myself! I’m rewarding myself for this impressive performance by writing the next lunar quiz, because it is almost as much fun to write those as it is to play them . . . especially when the subject matter is one of my all-time favorite shows: Freaks & Geeks! I’m not sure what the venue or date will be for this very special quiz yet, but it will be in December – I’ll solidify the details in a few days.
We had a couple of fantastic Triviology debuts last week, both of which earned teams tons of extra prizes, and both of which will be hosted by Michele on a weekly basis. Michele reports that Da Hui (Mon @ 8:00) has super-friendly service, and I can tell you that Cruzroom will continue to offer sweet prizes for the top two teams ($30 bar cash for 1st place; selection of bar quality cocktail shakers and muddlers for 2nd), and will offer complimentary samples to teams this Tuesday. The folks at Hutch on Holgate will be sad to lose Michele, as Wednesday was her last night there, but fear not – JonDick will save the day! Dick will be your new weekly host at HOH, and he will treat you right!
Have you guys seen those great redneck shirts & hats that read “My two favorite Daniels: Jack & Charlie”? Well, some of Funke Cold Medina’s artwork has inspired me to create an adult contemporary version: “My two favorite Collins: Tom & Phil!”

Halloween’s Vampire quiz was such a great
night! So many people came, played, and won trophy fangs and True Blood paper
dolls that I handed out for each round, not to mention the team of
Sookies who won a Dracula Pez dispenser! But there could only be one
champion to win the bar cash, the trophy, and the wicked-awesome Dracula
drawing that East Burn’s
excellent server Erica created just for us. That team, who also won the
right to rename the corner booth of the bar “The Forbidden Zone,” is Chupacandlabra!

Sad you missed all the fun? No worries –
there’s so much more coming your way! For example, this Monday, 7:00 at Ella
Street Social Club, you’ll get a chance to play The Best Frakking
Quiz in the Universe! Margaret
is not only a wonderful trivia jockey,
but she has scored some amazing prizes from the EMP’s
Battlestar Galactica Exhibition for you guys . . . in addition of
course to a trophy & gift certificates to the bar. And I am all
geekily excited because I actually get to play! Mind you, even if I were
to somehow magically kick ass and earn the high score, I will NOT
accept prizes, nor the title of victor – those are for YOU people! In
fact, I am risking a great deal of embarrassment by devising special
recognition for any team that scores higher than me on each round . . . I
expect to give out a lot of “I beat the trivia jockey!” certificates on
Monday! And just to reiterate what will be covered, the quiz will
basically be about the “re-imagined” series, with a dash of the original
series and “Caprica.”
If you are NOT a nerd, then you should go to the Triviology debut at Da’Hui on Monday at
8:00, which will be hosted by this woman:

was a great sport to go all the way to the Dum-Dum factory in Ohio just
to buy fresh lollipops for us, so now I’ve given her an assignment
closer to home. She will be your weekly trivia jockey at this SE Foster
venue. Michele will also be your regular hostess at Cruzroom, though I will host the premiere of this
Alberta venue this Tuesday. As a thanks to you for coming to these
debuts, we will be handing out extra prizes on both nights.
For tomorrow’s 2 PM trivia, you’ll need to
raid your piggy bank for the The Slammer! Your
first bloody mary is $4, and your second will cost you a penny! You can
practically make a meal out of The Slammer’s bloody mary bar – add green
beans, asparagus, pickles, baby corn, mushrooms, celery, etc. Sure
sounds like a Breakfast of Champions to me!
