Did Santa not bring you those gifts you asked for, after you were so good all year long?!? That’s a dick move . . . but I’m here to help! Pretend that you asked for is fame, glory, the envy of your peers, and gift certificates to some of Portland’s finest bars . . . now all you have to do is play some quizzery (and of course, win!). Many of you who wanted trophies for your Christmas costume finery, or ShanRock’s Triviology pint glasses and WikiReaders have been recently rewarded for your efforts. A member of Funke Cold Medina said that the WikiReader he won at Sewickly’s helped his daughter’s Christmas “not be shite,” and a member of Mothers of Retention immediately looked up Gigi on his freshly won WikiReader, which led him to Collette, and inspired him to share some anecdotes about her boobs with the trivia jockey. What a merry Xmas for all!
One of the final acts of 2010 here in Triviology-land will be to launch a new weekly venue in North Portland – Foggy Notion! Margaret will kick things off this Wednesday at 8:30. I already know you guys love this place – we brought the Brain Drain BarFly Trivia Bus there this year, and fun was had by all! Come on in for the inaugural win.

It’s time to sweat it out again! Step #1) Wear your most awfully awesome holiday sweater, sweater-vest, sweatshirt, dickie, or pajamas to any of these venues this week: Ella Street Social Club, Sewickly’s, Speakeasy, The Hutch, The Hutch On Holgate, The WorkShop Pub, La Merde. Step #2) After the quiz, present your sweater, and showcase its finery as you drink in the applause of your fellow Triviologists – this will determine the champion. Step #3) IF you lose – hang your head in shame, and start planning next year’s outfit; IF you win – graciously accept your trophy, thank all the little people, then gloat about your victory throughout 2011. And while we’re on holiday stuff, please take note that there will be no Kenton Club quiz on 12/23, while La Merde rocks on as usual, though with Michele as your hostess for the night. Also, if you are looking for a drinkery to while away your Chrismas Day, The Slammer will be open, though there will be no trivia. Why, just look how warm and cozy the Peacock Lane of dive bars is:
This season of giving wouldn’t be complete without awarding you extra free stuff, so here’s what I’m gonna do. First of all, this Tuesday at Cruzroom, we will give a ShanRock’s Triviology pint glass to each person that brings in a team that has never played my quizzery before (and if you can’t russle up a new crew, you can still buy them for $7 each). You see how everybody wins in this scenario? You get to drink out of a beautiful new glass (you are aware of how delicious beverages are when they are quaffed from a Major Award, right?), and your friends will also totally owe you for introducing them to this lovely new bar!
Also, I will be awarding a WikiReader to five different high-scoring teams at five different bars this week: East Burn, Ella Street Social Club, Sewickly’s, The Hutch, La Merde. You can read more on their website, but basically the WikiReader is an electronic encyclopedia, that does not require the interwebs to access information. I sure wish I’d had one of those all of the hours of my life I have spent waiting for and riding the bus!
Our recent Freaks & Geeks lunar quiz was one of the funnest ones I’ve ever written and hosted – we’re just going to have to do it again some day. Muchos kudos to Took A Page From Your Playboy, who earned First Block at this quiz – they only got two questions wrong! That means that they knew what Rashida Jones wrote on Sam’s locker (Pygmy Geek), what song was playing when Haverchuck and Coach Fredericks shared an awkward breakfast (“Love Reign O’er Me”), and why Miss Foote called George Washington Carver Bill’s mortal enemy (peanuts)!
